Pickleball Court Dimensions - Pickleball court dimensions

If you’re looking to understand the pickleball court dimensions, I can assume that you probably already know how basic and straightforward the game is.

You can set up a game in your garden or parking lot whenever you’re feeling bored, ask a buddy or any person of the family to join you and be your opponent, and you’ll both wind up having a great time!

Of course, at this point, you’re probably wondering how big a pickleball court size is. And how exactly do we measure it? If these are some of the inquiries you are having right now, I want to reassure you that I have figured out a way for you to solve them.

So, without further ado, let’s jump right into this topic, where I’ll discuss the various pickleball court measurements and their dimensions.

What Is PickleBall Court?

Pickleball Court Dimensions - Pickleball court

Pickleball courts are common knowledge, but I’ll keep the newcomers in mind and go over the essentials of the game and everything else in detail just in case they have no idea what I’m talking about.

So, a court is where players play this game, exactly like badminton ground, and the size of badminton and a pickleball field is pretty comparable, so there is not much of a difference between the two.

According to the USA Pickleball Rule Book, the minimum propose playing space of the field is 30 feet by 60 feet, while the standard court dimensions are 34 feet by 64 feet (with non-playable zones a.k.a. Out Of Bounds Area).
Likewise, the USA Pickleball Rule Book specifies a size of 20 by 44 feet for actual play

PickleBall Court Size In Feet – Detailed Beginners Guide!

I realize that simply stating that the two-game grounds are pretty similar and comparable will not provide you with the right and precise measurements of the size of the pickleball court. So, I’m writing down this detailed beginner’s guide for pickleball dimensions to provide you with exact measures.

A standard dimension of a pickleball court is:

44 feet in length (including the lines) and 20 feet in width, making it roughly the same size as a doubles badminton court (including lines).

The net is shorter than usual for badminton.

Measuring 36 inches at each end and 34 inches in the middle. When laying out the field, ensure plenty of space between the baselines and the sidelines for players to move freely.

A no-volley zone:

A no-volley zone stretches out from the net for 7 feet on both sides. This line refers to the area inside the non-volley zone boundary known as Kitchen.

(It’s amusing that the game’s name relates to a food item and that the court now has a kitchen, (Neither of these things have anything to do with the actual playing of the game.)

Once you subtract seven feet for the kitchen, the length from the line denoting the non-volley zone to the baseline is 15′ feet.

This space is divided in half, every 15 feet in width, by a centerline. You can think of this middle line as a dividing line between the two service sections on either side of the net.

Out Of Bounds Area

The out-of-bounds area was created so players wouldn’t get lost when trying to hit the ball, and it’s much larger than the in-bounds area so that they have plenty of room to move around while playing and your foot doesn’t cross that area.

This area in the play is out of bounds and is 30’ft outspread by 60 feet long.

How High Is A Pickleball Net? – What is the Height Clearance for a Pickleball Court?

If you compare the height of the pickleball net size to the tennis net, it is considerably lower than that and makes the serve simpler for these reasons.

Joe Pritchard invented Pickleball after observing the bored expressions of his children. He kept the net lower for their ease of play. Since then, the net has always been that much lower.

  • You can customise the height of your pickleball net anywhere from 30 to 36 inches, but keep in mind that the industry norm for the middle is 34 inches.
  • The standard pickleball net dimensions are 36 inches. When the net is higher than usual, it can affect your game.
  • The maximum diameter of competition posts is 3 inches, affecting net placement and height.
  • Pickleball can be played by people of different age groups and in various settings, including indoors and outdoors, on specially designed grounds for the game.
  • The ideal indoor vertical height clearance over the court is between 18 and 20 feet.
  • To prevent problems with pursuing a ball after it has gone out of bounds, the out-of-bounds region should extend outward from the lines by at least 10 feet on each side.

Pickleball Court Playing Lines and Playing Areas – What Each Line Means?

Everyone wants to know why pickleball has so many lines and zones and what they all mean. This is why I’m going to explain the basics of the game zone rules to you: it is just how this game is made, exactly like tennis and many other types of games. Nevertheless, for those who are curious, I’m describing it quickly.

  • You will see Sidelines on both sides of the net, which are perpendicular
  • The non-volley-zone, also known as Kitchen, is defined by parallel lines touching the sidelines on both sides where you can not step your foot! Otherwise you’ll commit a fault.
  • Between the centre line and the sidelines lies the service area on both ends of the ground.
  • The centerline extends from the edge of the kitchen area in the mid to the baseline and is the same length on both sides of the net.
  • When you’re standing with the net in front of you, the service zone is on the right side of the pickleball field.
  • When playing toward the net, the left side is the odd court service area.
  • The width of the pickleball lines is 2 inches.

Options For Pickleball Court Locations – Pickleball Court Playing Lines And Playing Areas

As you are already aware of the dimensions of a pickleball court, there is no particular location where it must be set up. Instead, the game can be arranged wherever you like.

Since the first pickleball match was played in a backyard, you can also set up the net and play the game there.

Driveways and parking lots are both excellent options for the location of the pickleball game setup.

Any street in the neighbourhood is deserted and unlikely to be busy with traffic!

To create a convenient play area for yourself and a personal zone where you and your friends may meet to play this fantastic game, you can draw the lines anyplace temporarily or by using permanent paint and enjoy a wonderful time!

The Wrap-Up!

By now, you must be well-known about the dimensions of a pickleball court. To be honest, the pickleball court dimensions are not overly complicated, and you do not need the IQ of Albert Einstein to comprehend the measures in order to set up a play zone for you in a short amount of time.

One of my favourite aspects of this game is that it is constructed to be as simple as possible in all aspects; you will have no problems understanding the game’s rules, buying its equipment, or setting up the field to play on your own.

Everyone should try it at least once with their pals because it’s an exciting way to kill time and get some exercise, and you won’t be able to keep your hands off the paddle the next time you play.

Hey, fellow pickleball player!

My name is Ethan Josephson. I am a pickleball enthusiast who has been playing this fantastic game for more than 5 years. Before that I had almost 20-years-experience with tennis and table tennis, but pickleball fascinated me completely.
